By Ellie Mahoney, Updated

Two climbers were involved in a mountaineering accident yesterday on attempting a route up Mont Pourri in Peisey Nancroix.

The pair, both aged 35, were apparently ascending the normal route when something happened and they slipped, falling over a band of ice.

One man died on the scene and the other was taken to hospital in Grenoble for treatment.

Our thoughts are with their family and friends.
