
Eric Barone Speed Week
The World champion of speed cycling descent is in town!
Eric Barone is a French sportsman who holds the world speed record on a bike, both on snow and gravel.
On snow, his record is 222 kilometres per hour achieved in Les Arcs, while on gravel it is 172 kilometres per hour (107 mph), achieved at the Cerro Negro volcano, in Nicaragua. His French nickname is “Baron Rouge”, which means Red Baron.
He's been in wind tunnels to test out new leg ailerons, and is hoping to set a new record in Les Arcs this week. TV's crews and lots of media will be around to record his attempts.
There will be speed attempts from:
- Pascal Budin - Ski
- Xavier Cousseau - Monoski
- Edmond Plawczyck - Snowboard
- Éric Barone - Mountain Bike
- Julien Brunet - Handiski
Training will run Tuesday to Thursday and the world record attempts are set to happen on Sunday or Monday depending on conditions - MTB at 7:00 - 9:00 and ski/snowboard/monoski/handiski at 10:30-14:00.
