A disappointed Eric Barone stepped off his finely tuned downhill mountain bike after reaching a staggering 201,117 km/h on the snowy Kilometre Lance piste in Les Arcs.

22 km/h short of the world record

Eric Barone picked up the challenge twelve years after the previous record was set and ten years since his famous volcano descent crash - he was confident and prepared but sadly it wasn't his day to set a new world record.
At 7.45am on the 10th of April Eric decided the conditions were good for a final attempt but after his third run he maxed out at 201,117 km/h.

Eric was reported to have said this won't be his last attempt and may well put in a appearance at the XSpeed downhill event in Verbier next week or back in Les Arcs next year.
In the meantime Eric has other projects on the horizon with the launch of his new 'Ecolodge' in the Jura, an environmentally friendly hotel.
