Fresh snow falls across the Alps
On Thursday of last week, many of us in the Alps woke up to views of white mountains. This was the third fall in a month, with snow first reported on 19th September. It fell again, relatively low this time, during the weekend of the 8th and 9th October. And there is more snow forecast in parts of the Alps, including Les Arcs and La Plagne, for the early part of this week.
Whilst it is still early, and snow at lower levels will no doubt melt, locals are predicting a particularly white winter. According to an old proverb, when the yellow gentian plant grows taller than normal (as it did this year), the coming season will be a snowy one. Let's hope there is some truth behind it!
