The mountains above Les Arcs are wearing snow again this week and the resort is looking quietly ready for winter. High up there is a crisp edge to the air, pistes are beginning to firm up and with snow recently fallen and more forecast, things feel like they are shaping up nicely. It could be a good chance for early lifts and a taste of what’s to come this season.
Recent snow report data from the ski area shows mountain-level snow depth around 150 cm with base-level snow at around 10 cm. Over the last couple of days there has been a light top-up of snow, and the mid-mountain forecast suggests a fresh dusting is expected on the next snow-window, which should help refresh piste surfaces. Temperatures at altitude remain below freezing overnight and during the early mornings, giving cold snow-holding conditions, while valley-level runs remain vulnerable as snow cover remains thin and dependent on snowfall or snow-making. The combination of a solid mountain base, recent snow, and stable cold means high-altitude terrain is in reasonable shape, though valley runs are still uncertain.
In the coming days weather forecasts hint at further light snow at mid to high elevations, which could improve covering and make pistes even more skiable. The history of Les Arcs suggests that this part of December often sees a few snowy days each week and a strengthening snowpack, a good omen for early season stability. For now the lifts that access high terrain and upper slopes are likely to give skiers their best chance of a successful run. As altitude holds up well, the early-season skiing window looks promising for those ready to head up.
High-altitude terrain at Les Arcs currently offers a solid base, decent snow cover and cold conditions that should preserve what’s down. For early-season skiing this weekend it makes sense to aim for upper lifts and prepared pistes. Lower valley runs remain patchy but the overall picture is improving. If snow falls as expected, upper-mountain runs could deliver enjoyable early-season turns.
