Sam Favret Wins 2013 Red Bull Linecatcher
French skier wins backcountry freestyle event in Les Arcs
After days of poor visibility, the Red Bull Linecatcher in Les Arcs got underway today with Chamonix born and bred Sam Favret taking first prize in the unique freeride competition.
Against the backdrop of impossibly blue skies and in perfect snow conditions, the 21 year old Favret fought off tough competition from the likes of Sage Cattabriga-Alosa, Parker White, and Rory Bushfield to win the event and add to his growing reputation as one of the most talented backcountry freeriders around right now. Parker White took second place on the podium followed by Nicolas Vuignier in third.
The Red Bull Linecatcher is freeride competition with a twist. In addition to the usual cliffs and chutes, the Linecatcher is littered with kickers that are hand-built by Julien Regnier and is judged in a similar way to a slopestyle competition.
To see some of the best freeriders in the world in action, take a trip through the Mont Blanc tunnel this weekend to see the Swatch Freeride World Tour by The North Face in Courmayeur or make sure you're in Chamonix next weekend when the event comes to France.
